About us

About The Club

PARTICIPATION - We are a small friendly club and enjoy paddling kayaks and canoes on rivers and lochs in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and across Scotland. On occasion, we arrange some surf kayaking and/or short sea kayaking trips and may combine some of our events with a sociable weekend away camping.

AFFILIATED – To the Scottish Canoe Association, this provides our members with full third party and Public Liabilities insurance and access to a range of information and courses.

DEVELOPMENT – of skills for inland kayaking or Canadian canoeing with personalized support from coaches and river leaders. In the winter we run a block of sessions in a swimming pool to hone skills such as bracing, capsize and rescue, and techniques towards developing a kayak roll.

DISCOVERY - our philosophy for learning is one of guided discovery. We use positive approaches and encourage you to think for yourself, experiment, ask questions and make informed choices.

LOAN OF KIT - We have a very good selection of kit for our members to hire for our events: new wetsuits, cagoules, buoyancy aids, helmets, spray decks and paddles to complement our fleet of inland kayaks and Canadian canoes. Our equipment is suitable for different sizes and shapes of paddlers.

ENABLE – We build confidence and enhance your enjoyment of our sport by supporting learning from YOUR starting point and helping you to work on physical and psychological aspects of paddling as well as the technical skills

What we do

Learn to kayak / Learn to canoe

We offer one or two trips per month (occasionally more) and these are suitable for both kayak and canoe. We cater for all abilities and paddle locally, mostly on the rivers Dee, Don, Spey, and Tay but occasionally venturing further afield.

Trips are generally posted on our Facebook page nearer to the date and contact can be made with the organizer to check suitability for your skills level and the craft you paddle. We also hold some winter sessions in a swimming pool.

The club can provide all of the necessary paddling equipment to make your trip safe and enjoyable. You will need to provide:

  • Swimsuit/trunks to wear under your hired wetsuit;

  • A towel, a t-shirt or fleece top (man-made fibers not cotton) to keep you warm;

  • An old pair of trainers or neoprene shoes to wear in the boat;

  • Your lunch including a hot or cold drink;

  • A bag of dry clothes to change into at the end;

As you become more proficient you may wish to purchase your own equipment and we can happily provide guidance.
